Match Report

The game began chaotically, with Dunstablians unlucky not to score in the first minute after a forward pass. This close call spurred St Neots into action. After clearing the ball from their own try line, Matthew Peppler Jones made a brilliant read of Dunstablians’ lineout play, intercepting a pass and running in a try from his own 10-meter line. Lewis Hall successfully converted, putting St Neots ahead 7-0.

Dunstablians responded quickly with a similar try, capitalising on a fumbled Saints ball, spreading it wide, and dotting it down in the corner. The score closed to 7-5.

A penalty from Lewis Hall extended the lead to 10-5, but Dunstablians struck again, intercepting a pass and scoring under the posts through their number 13. After the conversion, Dunstablians led 12-10. They soon cemented their lead with another try, following a well-executed move and strong carries.

With another Lewis Hall penalty, the score stood at 19-13.

The second half saw both teams settle into the game, with solid defence and hard running on display. Dunstablians were the first to score in the second half, converting a penalty. However, St Neots struck back with a try of their own. A quick tap penalty in the opposition's 22, combined with slick hands, set up a ruck in the left-hand corner. Jack Webb powered through defenders before popping the ball to Rory Dingemans, who slid over the line to score. The score was now 18-22.

Dunstablians responded once again, this time opting for a scrum off a penalty—a decision that surprised their coach. From the scrum, they drove hard into the centre before swinging the ball wide to the right, where the fullback scored in the corner. The try was celebrated with an impressive backflip from their prop. The score extended to 18-27.

Saints knew they had to fight back quickly to stay in the game. Their next try came from some lovely play by scrum-half Jack Webb, who picked from the ruck, drawing in defenders before popping the ball to Billy Woodgate on a perfectly timed line for an easy run under the posts. Lewis Hall’s conversion narrowed the gap to 25-27.

In the final 10 minutes, Dunstablians added a penalty, going five points clear, seemingly sealing the win. However, with seconds left on the clock, the ever-eager Jack Webb took a quick tap penalty, passing to Rory Dingemans. After some average footwork, Dingemans offloaded to Dean Terreblanche, who grounded the ball with such force the referee awarded a try in the corner. This left Lewis Hall with a challenging conversion from the touchline. The kick looked promising but, unfortunately, fell short, and the game ended in a 30-30 draw.
