On Saturday, the Devs side travelled to Sharnbrook and Colworth Rugby club for their first pre season game.
St Neots arrived in a confident mood after a productive pre-season and started well, taking a 0-7 lead after some powerful running from the forwards including Jack Wilkie who scored the first points of the game.
Sharnbrook and Colworth responded well and sustained pressure resulted in them scoring three successive tries to end the first half. Half time score: 19-7.
St Neots started the 2nd half like they did the first, scoring early to reduce the deficit to 19-12. With their superior fitness clear for everyone to see, St Neots took control and played some excellent rugby. Making every minute count the Devs made a come back to win 29-19.
A stand out moment of the 2nd half came when fly half Sam Noble opened up the Sharnbrook defence with excellent footwork before racing through from the half way line to score under the posts.
At full time energy and morale in the St Neots camp was still high as they gathered together to celebrate and sing ‘Oh When the Saints’.
Man of the Match : Daltrey Whyte, whose tenacity in both defence and offence put the opposition under pressure throughout.
