St Neots' Development side achieved an impressive home win over a well-drilled Dunstablians 2nd XV on Saturday.

In a narrow and tense game, St Neots displayed grit, resilience, and composure on their way to a 15-12 victory.

St Neots started strongly, dictating the pace and imposing their game on their opponents. Powerful runs from Tristan Brown, George Jenkins, and Ash Fisk put St Neots on the front foot before Olavi Hedges broke through numerous tackles to score under the posts. A conversion from George Jenkins made the score 7-0. St Neots continued to play within their structure, putting Dunstablians under significant pressure with their fast-paced game. After a sustained period of pressure, St Neots forced an error and capitalized with a penalty from George Jenkins, extending the lead to 10-0.

Dunstablians responded well, putting St Neots under pressure with some excellent interplay from their youthful backline, who was full of energy throughout. St Neots defended against this threat effectively, with their drift defence nullifying the Dunstablians’ attacks time and again. Dunstablians switched to plan B, gaining good territory through excellent kicking. Shortly before halftime, the well-drilled Dunstablians' lineout led to a slick rolling maul and a well-worked team try in the corner, making the halftime score 10-5.

Dunstablians started the second half as the stronger side, pinning St Neots back with their solid scrum and excellent kicking. This pressure paid off when they scored from a well-executed lineout in the corner, and a successful conversion brought the score to 10-12. St Neots showed composure to get back into the game, once again imposing their hard-running and expansive style on the opposition. Devastating ball carrying from the outstanding James Colnet repeatedly pushed Dunstablians back. On the front foot, St Neots put together their best move of the game, retaining possession over numerous phases before Ash Fisk scored with a composed and powerful finish, bringing the score to 15-12.

Dunstablians showed heart and resilience as they sought to put St Neots under pressure. However, the St Neots defence rose to the challenge, with all 15 players defending with poise and aggression to keep their opponents at bay. Olavi Hedges was a constant threat at the breakdown, turning over the ball on several occasions. Dunstablians continued to apply pressure, stretching the St Neots defense, but a sublime try-saving tackle from Nicholas Ashford on a player at least half his age halted their momentum. As the game reached its final stages, Dunstablians forced an error and had the opportunity to level the scores with a penalty. Unfortunately for them, the penalty drifted wide of the posts, allowing St Neots to secure a thoroughly deserved victory over their well-drilled opposition. This impressive and composed team performance sets the stage for the season ahead.

Final score: 15-12

Man of the Match: James Colnet for his outstanding work with the ball in hand that consistently put St Neots on the front foot.
